When you buy a home without a pantry, you can feel very overwhelmed with where you are going to store all your food. Most people don't have a choice but to store it in their cabinets and this takes away from other kitchen item storage. This happened recently to one of my clients. She was very overwhelmed with not having a functional pantry and found that all her food was all over the kitchen in multiple different places, causing chaos when it came time to cook.

I noticed that she had a small coat closet off of the kitchen that she was using as storage for cleaning supplies. I asked if she would be up to making this into a pantry. She LOVED the idea but didn't think that it was possible. So, I took on the challenge!

At first, we thought that a tiered storage unit might work best because of how small the closet was and also we were working with one functional wall, but we quickly learned that because the closet was SO SMALL that there wasn't a storage unit that was deep and wide enough that would work. So, I decided that we were going to put up shelves. Now we didn't go this route right away because the previous owners had created a hole in the back wall for storage under the stairs. My client wasn't using the storage so I decided to put up drywall and close up the hole.

We painted the closet white to brighten up the space. We also bought a light cover since there wasn't one. I added four shelving units. The bottom two, I extended further out to make it deeper. I couldn't make all the shelving units that deep because of the electrical box and light switch on one of the walls. We were able to work with what we had!

After creating the shelves, we were finally able to ORGANIZE! We went to the store and bought some lazy susan's and containers. Once back at the house we got to work with creating a functional pantry. I got everything labeled and the pantry was complete.
